Duties

Help

As a Health Communications Specialist, you will have the following responsibilities;

  1. Assist with coordinating and conducting the development and implementation of outreach programs.
  2. Participate in the development and management of national communication and tobacco initiation prevention for various stakeholder audiences.
  3. Conduct target audience research to advise on appropriate communication channels, messages, and partnerships.
  4. Provide technical assistance and consultation to public health entities.
  5. Contribute to the development of exhibit agreements, contracts, task orders, and interagency agreements.
  6. Participate in project administration, risk assessment, and management.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Health Communications Specialist, GS-1001-11/12, you must meet the following requirements:

GS-1001-11: Have one (1) year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the federal service to include assisting with a variety of national and/or state-wide public education and marketing events, exhibits, and activities in a tobacco or other public health arena.
OR
Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Transcripts must be submitted at the time of application.
OR
Have equivalent combinations of education and experience as stated above. Only education in excess of one full year of graduate level education will be considered. Transcripts must be submitted at the time of application.

GS-1001-12: Have one (1) year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service to include developing new national stakeholder alliances for tobacco use and other public health prevention programs; launch strategic plans and exhibits; and liaising with others on cross cutting issues.

In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
