The mission of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) is to provide force protection, security, and law enforcement as required for the people, facilities, infrastructure, and other resources at the Pentagon Reservation and for Department of Defense (DoD) activities and DoD leased facilities not under the jurisdiction of a Military Department within the National Capital Region (NCR), This includes addressing the full spectrum of threats to the Pentagon Facilities by utilizing a balanced strategy of prevention, preparedness, detection, response, crisis management, and consequence management. The PFPA is the DoD focal point for coordination with other DoD components, other Executive Departments and Federal agencies, state, and local authorities on matters involving force protection, security, and law enforcement activities that impact the Pentagon Facilities.

Washington Headquarters Services was established as a Department of Defense Field Activity on October 1, 1977, as part of a DoD headquarters streamlining initiative. Approximately 1,200 civilian and military employees as well as contract staff are organized into 12 directorates and offices. WHS personnel contribute to the mission of our Defense customers by managing DoD-wide programs and operations for the Pentagon Reservation and DoD leased facilities in the National Capital Region. WHS is organizationally aligned under the Director of Administration for the Office of the Deputy Chief Management Officer.

Duties

Help

As a CI INVESTIGATIVE SPECIALIST, GS-1801-13, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:

  • Serve as member of the Pentagon law enforcement team by applying technical expertise in the use, operation, modification, and maintenance of technical surveillance equipment.
  • Coordinate with criminal investigators in the planning and execution of major criminal investigations.
  • Conduct technical investigations and gather evidence of criminal activity through covert and overt application of investigative electronic surveillance techniques.
  • Prepare presentations and reports detailing the technical surveillance procedures used during the course of investigations.
  • Serve as a technical authority and provides training and guidance to CI staff members, Special Agents, and other Law Enforcement Officers engaged in electronic surveillance and investigative work.

  • The employee assigned to this position is designated as a MISSION ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE. Mission Essential employees may be required to report for, or remain at, work in dismissal or closure situations due to adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, or other emergency situations (e g . building closure due to power outage) causing disruptions of government operations, and are required to maintain contact with their supervisor during any dismissal or closure situation unless specifically excused by their supervisor.
  • The employee must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license from the jurisdiction where he or she resides. Government owned motor vehicles must be driven and managed in accordance with Office of Personnel Management and PFPA policies and regulations
  • The position requires CONUS/OCONUS travel up to 30% of the duty time
  • The employee must successfully complete the Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM) Fundamentals Course through the Interagency Training Center within the first year of being assigned to this position.
  • The employee must obtain and maintain Basic Digital Crime Investigator certification through the DoD Cyber Investigations Training Academy within the first two years of being assigned to this position.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to provide advice to interagency working groups for resolving unique and diverse problems in existing operations security programs requiring senior level coordination; working with multiple counterintelligence agencies on classified projects or missions; and applying laws and regulations that govern electronic surveillance and evidence gathering techniques.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
