The Nurse Manager is a professional nurse who holds accountability for the management of Same Day Services within VA Puget Sound Health Care System located in the Anesthesiology Service line. SDS is an outpatient unit, which provides patient care in four functional areas: Outpatient Evaluation Clinic, Patient Admission Center, Same Day Unit and Surgical Clinics. The Outpatient Evaluation Clinic (OEC) is an area where all specialty services can obtain or perform pre-procedure and other complex evaluations for patients, which include diagnostic testing, pre-admission assessments, pre-procedure teaching, history and physical assessment, anesthesia assessment and cardiac/complex medical assessments. The Patient Admission Center (PAC) provides a centralized area for admission processing for all specialty services in the medical center and patient care includes diagnostic testing, initial admission assessments, and specialty needs (inventory of belongings), and also provides a systemized process for day-of-surgery admissions. The Same Day Unit (SDU) provides patient care to a variety of patients undergoing outpatient procedures, including surgery, cardioversion, diagnostic procedures, GI procedures, and minor therapies such as ultraviolet treatments. The SDU also encompasses a telephone care system, where scheduled patients are called prior to procedures. SDU patients are called after the procedure to assess for issues and patient concerns. The Surgical clinics provide clinical assessment of referred and established patients. The patient population includes all ranges of age (young adult through geriatric) and all ranges of medical conditions (fully healthy through multiple chronic medical conditions).

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
