The dermatologist conducts examination and procedure clinics that support and improve the health of patients with dermatologic disorders.
Duties to include but not limited to:
a. Initial evaluation and therapy of acute problems. Obtain a pertinent medical history and conduct a physical examination of each veteran. Diagnose and advise veteran of clinical problems that may be discovered during an examination. Interpret pathology and radiological related material.
b. Provide ongoing primary care in the longitudinal medical clinics. Chronic medical problems commonly seen in the veteran population are dealt with. Included are such disorders as diabetes, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, degenerative arthritis, depression, congestive heart failure, and angina. The dermatologist conducts examination and procedure clinics that support and improve the health of patients with dermatologic disorders. Judicious use of laboratory and x-ray services, as well as appropriate referral and consultation is obtained.
c. Participation in the teaching programs of the University of Nevada, School of Medicine. Provide educational opportunities for students of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dietary services, and others. Residents in training in medicine, surgery, psychiatry and family practice also receive instruction from Medical Service.
d. Provide training and/or direction as applicable to supporting employees (e.g. RNs, LPNs, technicians, administrative support staff) assigned to the unit during the performance of duties. Such direction and interaction will adhere to government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocol.
e. Thorough medical ratings examinations, including medical opinions, as requested.

Physical Requirements: In the process of providing patient care, the work involves regular and recurring periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, pulling, lifting, reaching and carrying. Manual dexterity is required to operate medical equipment and perform activities such as surgery, treatments and computerized medical record documentation.

First-Year Residency (Internship) - Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was competed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate's acceptability for residency training.
