Under the supervision of the Support, Repair, Maintenance Electrical Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the development, direction, and utilization of the workforce assigned to the High Voltage Unit, the Elevator Unit, and General Electrical Maintenance Unit. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that work assignments for these units are carried out.
The incumbent is responsible for passing instructions onto workers and getting work started, demonstrating proper work methods, and explaining critical equipment operating specifications. He/she will make sure needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. The incumbent is responsible for answering questions on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives and assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
Additionally, the incumbent will check work while in progress and verify instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met and the completion of projects. He/she is responsible for reporting to the Support, Repair, and Maintenance Electrical Supervisor on the status and progress of work, and causes of work delays. He/she shall be technically competent in all phases of the electrical trade in terms of codes, practices, materials, equipment circuits, alarm and protective systems, explosion and fire resistant installations and materials, standby power systems, D.C. power systems and motor control systems. Additionally, the incumbent shall keep abreast of the latest technical and material advances in the electrical construction and maintenance field and changes in National Electrical Codes, local codes and the criteria for uses of electric power at NIST, Gaithersburg. The incumbent shall have the ability to accomplish work efficiently on a large number of concurrent projects of varying priorities.
He/she will provide updates to the Support, Repair, Maintenance Electrical Supervisor on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees); and will approve leave requests in the absence of the Support, Repair, Maintenance Electrical Supervisor. This position does have the responsibility of “out of hours” callback response.
