Help

As a SECURITY SPECIALIST at the NH-0080-4 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Provide expert, authoritative security and protection advice and guidance to senior agency personnel in the application of program protection, information security, classification and declassification management, industrial security, and/or operations security policies, requirements, standards and criteria, through direct interaction with system and technology planners, designers, developers, and acquisition authorities across the MDA.
  • Determine and apply Information Security standards in support of programmatic research, development, production, and deployment efforts. Participates in preparation of Memorandum of Understanding/ Memorandum of Agreement (MOU/MOAs), other international agreements, and arrangements with Services and Agencies, OSD offices, and other Federal entities.
  • Oversee and evaluate security projects being accomplished by contract to ensure that all actions are properly and effectively administered in compliance with applicable contracting laws and regulations, and Agency/Department policies.
  • Provide management and programmatic direction of comprehensive and coherent Information Security in support of program protection policy for complex weapons systems. Apply procedural security and protection methods and processes to develop policies and procedures that provide security solutions to complex problems.
  • Serve as the technical authority in managing the Information Security Program. Provides oversight and guidance for information handled at all MDA operating locations.
  • Serve as the Information Security Program coordinating agent for Enabling Office support from Technical Intelligence and Security services provided by organizations outside of Program Protection (e.g., Intelligence, Counterintelligence, Emergency Management, International Security, Antiterrorism, Special Security, Personnel Security, and Physical Security).
  • Represent MDA Information Security interests at senior and action officer level meetings within MDA, and with OSD, the Joint Staff, the Services, and other Defense and non-Defense agencies, when required.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the NH-04 , if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the ((NH-03/GS-13) grade level in the Federal service meeting 3 of the 5 following statements:

  • Experience with security principles, methods, and techniques related to development, acquisition, and deployment of complex weapons systems.
  • Experience developing, managing, and implementing Information Security programs in accordance with requirements in Executive Order 13526 "Classified National Security Information," DoD Instruction 5200.01 and Manual 5200.01, and other relevant Federal and DoD policy requirements.
  • Experience coordinating security processes among multiple stakeholders at varying levels of command and influence across OSD elements, military services, federal agencies, industrial partners, and foreign government representatives.
  • Experience in Information Security risk management strategies requiring coordination with scientific, technical, and/or other subject-matter experts to assess and mitigate risk based on intelligence-driven threats that can have national security implications.
  • Experience leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of security criteria for inclusion in relevant Agency/Service/Department-level policies.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
