Duties

Help

  • Responsible for supervising Lead Irrigation System Operators and Irrigation System Operators.
  • Receives water orders; takes daily measurements; maintains record of water delivery, reservoir inflow and outflow, and instream flows, calculates requirements for area served.
  • Operates project distribution facilities to regulate and deliver water in accordance with Bureau water project policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for constant surveillance and condition or irrigation related faculties. Recommends needed maintenance and schedules required repairs.
  • Plan work for subordinates, establish priorities and prepares schedules for its completion.

Qualifications

The following shows the amounts of education and/or experience required to qualify for positions.

GS-9: 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-07 level OR master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE - Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: work experience demonstrating responsibility for providing technical guidance and oversight to an irrigation operation and maintenance company or organization. Also, experience with irrigation (or similar) facilities and maintenance equipment sufficient to have the ability to identify, prioritize, schedule, and coordinate irrigation system construction and maintenance work utilizing computers, including the utilization of spreadsheets and word processing applications, to perform somewhat complex calculations, and prepare reports and correspondence.

Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.

The full performance level of this position is GS-9.

This is a supervisory position. Under provision of the Civil Service Reform Act, first-time supervisors are required to serve a one year supervisory probationary period before their appointment becomes final. Those who do not satisfactorily complete this probationary period will be returned to positions of no lower grade and pay than those they occupied before assuming their supervisory assignment.
