Duties

Help
  • Provides expert consultation in matters related to the research process and specific, complex participant populations.
  • Develops plans to address comprehensive research participant needs including education, safety, and comfort.
  • Provides leadership, facilitation, and group management skills to the team and identifies opportunities for collaborative projects and practice.
  • Supports biomedical research through detailed observations, measurements, and data collection related to pertinent assessments as defined by the study specifications and the incumbent’s expert clinical judgment.
  • Disseminates clinical expertise and best practices related to clinical research through research team meetings, program-based in-services, and/or interactions with nursing and interdisciplinary colleagues.
  • Identifies opportunities for the program to improve support of participants participating in research.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Nurse (Clinical Research), GS-0610-12/13 position, you must:

A.
Have a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, or associate degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program. NOTE: Degree from a Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

AND

B. Have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

AND

C. Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.

In addition to meeting the educational requirement, in order to qualify for a Nurse (Clinical Research) position at the GS-0610-12 level, you must have at least 1 year of Clinical Nurse experience equivalent to at least the GS-0610-11 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing clinical care to varying patient populations with complex needs; serving as nurse or coordinator for a specific population of patients; initiating appropriate referrals and coordinating routine care; assessing complex and sensitive health education needs in individual patient populations with like conditions, protocols or other characteristics.

In addition to meeting the educational requirement, in order to qualify for a Nurse (Clinical Research) position at the GS-0610-13 level, you must have at least 1 year of Clinical Nurse experience equivalent to at least the GS-0610-12 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Evaluating patient care by establishing policies, guidelines and priorities; developing plans that address patient's needs, including education, safety, comfort and spirituality; directing the delivery of nursing care for a specific patient population; and resolving uncommon patient care situations with creativity and innovation.
