As a Public Affairs Specialist, GS-1035-13, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with senior leaders within OBIM and peers throughout the Management Directorate and DHS and with partner and tenant agencies.
  • Manages OBIM external communications activities across multiple digital platforms including web and social media, providing guidance and direction to OBIM personnel.
  • Develops, creates, formats, and publishes approved statements, graphics and informational material to include infographics announcements, factsheets, tweets, images, and official statements designed to inform key audiences of the OBIM mission, activities, programs and policies.
  • Directs and coordinates special digital products and projects intended to develop understanding of OBIM policies and programs with the general public, public officials, stakeholders, and community and special interest groups.
Multiple positions may be filled using this vacancy announcement. While all positions will be filled in the Department of Homeland Security, multiple Components and Offices within DHS may use this announcement to fill positions.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:

  • Develops multimedia products, in coordination with program office leadership and the Management Directorate's Office of Public Affairs.
  • Directs and coordinates special digital products and projects intended to develop understanding of program office policies and programs with the general public, public officials, stakeholders, and community and special interest groups.
  • Detailed knowledge of operation, data retrieval and proper use of various on-line information systems and knowledge of power point, other data and word processing and publishing programs to prepare newsletters, brochures and charts for presentation.
  • Skill in analyzing the effectiveness of communication policies and plans and developing recommendations to change them as well as the overall media program.
