Duties

Help

As a Engineering Equipment Operator your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Operate heavy equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to specifications on such projects like repairing and maintaining trails, roads, canals, tunnels, dykes and work on construction sites.
  • Move earth on various terrain including moderate slopes, graded curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, vertical drop-offs, forests, and other surfaces with similar rough features.
  • Clear brush, small trees, tree stumps, and rocks, and developing fire lanes, remove piles of dirt/rock/debris.
  • Operate a variety of farm/agricultural tractors with auxiliary equipment (belly mower, bush hog, disk, sickle bar, and sprayer, etc.).
  • Maintain equipment by checking fluids, lubricating performing safety checks, replacing hoses, belts, fuses, light bulbs and rebuilding components.
  • Troubleshoot and perform repairs to a variety of heavy mobile equipment and vehicles by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts and components.
  • Makes repairs to building and facility electrical systems such as lighting and power fixtures, wiring, fire or water alarm systems, and emergency power systems. Installs outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators, and circuit breakers.
  • Construct, install, or repair items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding, and scaffolds.
  • Measure, cut, construct, install, repair, and modify wood, composite, and wood substitute items to rough finishes.
  • Keep written maintenance records for all equipment operated and keep equipment log books up-to-date at all times.

  • Probationary Period: Selectees may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

  • This position requires the employee to obtain and maintain a valid Class A State Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to operate various vehicles and equipment.
  • This position is subject to physical examination and drug and alcohol testing requirements as established by the department of Transportation (49 CFR 391.41 (b)(l) through (b)(13)).

Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
