The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is an essential labor law enforcement agency responsible for enforcing significant labor laws affecting nearly 150 million workers. Our mission is to protect rights related to minimum wage, overtime, child labor, family and medical leave, employment conditions for migrant workers, lie detector tests, garnishments, prevailing wages on government-funded contracts, labor provisions of several guest worker programs, and more.
The duties described below are similar to those of the full performance level but will be performed under closer than normal supervision. This position is designed to prepare the employee to perform the duties at the full performance level. As the employee progresses, the assignments will become more difficult and complex in preparation to successfully perform the duties at the next grade level. The career ladder progression for this position is GS-11/12.
As a Financial Management Specialist, you will perform the following duties which are not all-inclusive:
Understanding of basic accounting principles and the financial management systems, polices, and procedures in performing the examination, verification, and maintenance of financial accounts and financial data.
Assists senior financial and accounting professionals in coordinating financial proposals and recommendations to consult on systems and procedures, to provide technical assistance in all areas of financial management, and to post and provide proper classification of
financial data.
Analyzes a variety of complex system generated reports, Treasury documentation and other source data to complete monthly and quarterly reconciliations and ad hoc management reports.
Assists management in preparing responses to audit inquiries relating to the consolidated annual financial statement audits, or targeted financial audits.
Identifies issues, gathers, and analyzes financial information, and develops advice and guidance to resolve substantive problems.
Aids management on the design and modification of financial system operations, and the implementation of new application data releases.
Reviews and analyzes various accounting reports and data to identify the cause and resolution of transaction variances, problems and potential problems related to DOL's financial records (accounting system and sub-systems such as accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), travel, procurement, e-Travel, capitalized assets, and property management).
Monitors and processes obligations, liquidations, collections and disbursement operations for the various systems and processes.
Formulates a variety of routine financial reports and implementing fiscal year end closing procedures for assigned funds and processes.
Candidate required to obtain and maintain the necessary security/background investigation level.
Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
