Help

As a Contact Representative at the GS-0962-06/07/08 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Responds to telephone inquiries in regard to the Military Selective Act.
  • Analyzes questions from callers and takes appropriate action in providing an accurate and concise response.
  • Updates the Registrant and/or Compliance data bases or suspense files.
  • Analyzes numerous recurring and non-recurring computer-generated output reports.
  • Prepares hard copy source input to correct data fields in error or enters raw data via remote terminal station.
  • Maintains control of National Headquarters controlled correspondence.
  • Reviews incoming written inquiries and forms to determine necessary action and makes required record changes.
  • Prepares responses, when necessary
  • Verifies output reports completed in a previous cycle to ensure resubmission action is taken.
  • Trains new personnel on procedures of their job and the various offices within the organization.
  • Performs research of data bases in support of special projects regarding registrant and potential registrants files.
  • Handle federal and agency specific policy, procedures and guidelines regarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Analyzes contents on source documents (hardcopy and image), multiple databases, and other record sources to determine the correct response to inquiries, resolve problems, obtain missing information or correct the data, and researches necessary sources.
  • Coding or inputting corrective information for subsequent computer processing.

Due to COVID-19, the agency is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area.

Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement within 30 days unless you have requested an accommodation for a medical or religious reason.

Qualifications

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). You must include an SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one) that supports meeting this requirement with your application package.

All qualification requirements must be met by midnight (Eastern Time) on the closing date of this vacancy announcement.

Qualifying experience for the GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes: Advising and assisting the public with a variety of problems, questions, and situations through telephonic, written, and electronic means; inputs, retrieves, analyzes, edits registration data and special computer generated reports, and researches. Ability and skill in applying interpersonal relations such as showing understanding, courtesy, teach, empathy and concern in order to develop and maintain professional relationships. Keeps supervisor and leads information of the progress, unusual problems or issues which affect the operations including any precedent-setting activities and training new employees of the policy, procedures and processes of the office.

Qualifying experience for the GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes: Advising and assisting the public with a variety of problems, questions, and situations through telephonic, written, and electronic means; inputs, retrieves, analyzes, edits registration data and special computer generated reports, and researches and analyzes current and proposed operating programs to evaluate their effectiveness in achieving objectives. Skills and ability to be flexible in order to adapt to change, new technology and information, and new work methods or changing conditions.

Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes: customer service, flexibility, reading, reasoning, self-management, teamwork, technical competence, writing clear communication.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

If education is a basic requirement or you are qualifying all or in part based on your education, you must submit transcripts (official or unofficial). Failure to submit transcripts may result in an ineligible rating.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program.
