Duties

Help

As an IT Specialist at the FAA, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Accelerate adoption of Artificial Intelligence by identify opportunities for exploration, advising project teams, and supporting targeted use cases
  • Create/provide guidelines for a scalable and robust AI engineering design across data (DataOps), Models (ModelOps) and Software (DevOps). Orchestrate the deployment and management of models in production environments.
  • Assist the agency in defining enterprise Artificial Intelligence Strategy to include cataloging use cases, sharing MLOps best practices, and establishing a model registry
  • Collaborate with project teams to understand business goals and requirements to advise on potential solutions
  • Work with Product Managers to improve user experience and evaluate future enhancements to meet user community needs
  • Mature AI practices, focus on continuous improvement and engender responsible AI
  • Map current and future requirements to technical implementation. Gather requirements from multiple stakeholders — line of business users, data scientists, security professionals, data engineers and analysts, and those in IT operations — and map them to processes and products that must be implemented.
  • Advise business teams on AI/ML use case feasibility, architectural design and alignment with current IT set-up.
  • Help business leaders translate their vision into feasible technical implementations
  • Challenge the business on misaligned initiatives and impractical use cases.
  • Select the appropriate technologies from the many available open-source and commercial offerings. Additionally, select cloud, on-premises or hybrid deployment models — as well as ensure that new tools are well integrated with existing data management and analytics tools. Mitigate lock-in, minimize exit costs and future-proof technology investments.
  • Play a critical role in executing the mission of the Advanced Analytics Center for Enablement
  • Work within an AI center of excellence to define architectural best practices.
  • Set standards and promote best practices across Business Intelligence & Analytics community
  • Work with data scientists and AI engineers to ensure a feedback mechanism is in place to vet AI services, support model recalibration and retrain models. Tools and practices across data, models and software engineering need to be constantly audited with a focus on continuous improvement and leveraging from external ecosystems.

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I / FG/GS-13. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience is: Experience leading technical teams in the adoption of Artificial Intelligence in a large IT enterprise environment to include identifying opportunities for exploration, advising project teams, and supporting and cataloging targeted use cases and experience analyzing data using advanced analytics tools such as Sagemaker, Alteryx, Jupyter, ArcGIS, SAS, or R.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the following has been determined to be a Selective Placement Factor
for this position. This means possession of this criterion is part of the minimum qualifications and is essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Applicants who do not possess this criterion are ineligible for further consideration.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF): Applicant must have skill leading technical teams in the adoption of Artificial Intelligence in a large IT enterprise environment.

Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in their work history.
