This position is located in the Chronic Kidney Disease Section, Phoenix Epidemiology and Clinical Research Branch (PECRB), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH). Specific purposes are to supervise and direct recruiters and health technicians in the performance of research protocols and to perform components of the research protocols and provide the expertise of a Registered Nurse.

Duties

Help

  • Provide leadership, supervision and direction of staff within the section in providing effective and professional nursing services to clinical branches.
  • Train professional and technical members of the interdisciplinary study team and supervise the
    field activities of the study team.
  • Plan and develop study components as assigned, including manuals of operations.
  • Serve a leader in an area of clinical practice and direct the delivery of nursing care to a specific population of patients.
  • Expertly utilize the nursing process and advanced nursing skills to assess, plan, perform and evaluate patient care for specific cohorts of patients participating in biomedical research.
  • Develop plans to address patient's comprehensive needs including education, safety, comfort and spirituality.
  • Coordinate and initiate internal and external referral and the multidisciplinary care of research patients.
  • Plan and evaluate care including establishing policies, guidelines and priorities.
  • In collaboration with supervisor, research and resolve uncommon situations in patient care that require creativity and innovation.

Qualifications

In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Clinical Research), GS-0610, you must have:

A. a graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. Note: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools; AND

B. passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN); AND

C. possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

AND

In order to qualify for a Nurse (Clinical Research) position at the GS-12 level, you must have at least 1 year of Clinical Nurse experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: exercising the full range of supervisory responsibilities over subordinate staff, including: planning and assigning work, setting priorities and deadlines, and evaluating work performance of employees; evaluating patient eligibility for study participation; coordinating and organizing the educational aspects of studies; collecting patient data, analyzing trends, interpreting results, and suggesting possible alterations to treatments according to research protocol; AND ensuring division adherence to ethical standards, protocol compliance, data management and information technology, and quality assurance processes..
