Minimum Qualification GS-4

  1. From the descriptions below, choose one response which best describes your education and/or experience as related to the qualification requirements for this position at the GS-4 grade level.
    A. I have at least 6 months of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of at least the GS-3 level in the Federal service, which could have been obtained in the private or public sectors. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to: park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; work in a park, recreation or conservation area; management, assistant or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations;
    AND at least 6 months of general experience. Examples of qualifying general experience include, but are not limited to: experience in administrative, professional, technical or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of rules or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public. Experience in substantive and relevant secretarial, clerical, or trades and crafts work is also qualifying if pertinent to the position to be filled. Experience of a routine nature, such as typing, filing, maintaining records, or other non-specialized tasks is not qualifying. OR
  2. I have completed 2 years of study above high school leading with 12 semester hours related to the occupation: Related fields of study include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR
  3. I possess an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education which together equals 100% of the requirements. To combine education and experience, determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for this grade level. For example, I have 6 months of specialized experience such as described in A above, (50% of the required specialized experience) and I have 60 semester credits of appropriate education (50% of the education as in B above). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
