Participates in performing audits of all organizations, programs, activities, and functions within or supported by the Department of Labor. Uses electronic spreadsheet, word processing, and database applications to assist in performing the duties of the position.
Drafts assigned segment(s) of audit programs, including the planned objectives, scope, methodology, timetable, and required resources of the audit.
Attends training sessions and receives on-the-job training designed to improve professional capabilities, effectiveness and further career development.
In accordance with the approved audit program, conducts interviews, audits records, and prepares work papers to document the results of assigned segments of the audit. Participates in entrance conferences with senior officials of the entity being audited. Maintains contacts with officials, audit supervisors, and Departmental managers to explain regulations, procedures, etc. Participates in exit conferences to inform appropriate officials of the results of the audit.
Prepares written audit findings and recommendations for incorporation into an overall report ensuring technical accuracy, and reasonableness and effectiveness of recommendations.
Appointment to this position may require a background investigation.

Assisting in the identification of applicable laws and regulations applicable to the subject of research or audit
Presenting conclusions, findings or recommendations to senior Auditor for potential use in preparing audits using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling and identifying the purpose, nature, timing, extent, and results of the work performed including conclusions.
GS-09: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level. Examples of specialized experience includes but is not limited to:
Presenting conclusions, findings, or recommendations to a senior Auditor or supervisor for potential use in developing report finding
Using time appropriately to complete multiple tasks by given deadlines
Documenting work performed using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling to describe the purpose, nature, timing, extent, and results of the work performed
Conducting research to identify and retrieve data or information relevant to the objective of the research or audit; and assisting in the identification of laws, regulations procedures applicable to the subject of research or audit.

To be eligible for an appointment, you must meet the requirement A or B:
A. Completed all requirements for Associates, Bachelors, Masters, Professional, Doctorate, Vocational, or Technical Degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years;

Basic Requirements for Performance Auditors
A. Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.

B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.
To qualify at the GS-07: 1 full year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.
