Summary

This position is located on the Los Padres National Forest, Santa Barbara Ranger District, Santa Barbara CA.

The incumbent serves as the administrative technical liaison between the Ranger District and Forest Supervisor's Office. Incumbent accomplishes and provides advice on a wide variety of technical and administration duties.

Duties

Help
  • From specific instructions, performs completed work from inception to final accomplishment of project including all necessary study, collection of pertinent information and data recording, writing of correspondence, reports, etc.
  • Disseminates administrative information to employees and serves as a liaison for administrative support that is provided by other units.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance for administrative work and assists in correcting problems that conflict with established guidelines and rules.
  • Works with local staff to process and document procurement requests for field and office supplies and equipment.
  • Accepts, examines, evaluates, routes, and maintains incoming communication, mail, administrative email, faxes, and routine and sensitive correspondence.
  • Advises on procedural and documentation requirements for unit programs, plans, and annual progress reports.
  • Assists with scheduling conferences and meetings, including arranging logistics, preparing agendas, and notifying participants.
  • Assembles and evaluates data and information from a variety of sources to update the unit?s budget.
  • Participates in program and budget planning and correlating of work plans with administrative and regulatory requirements involving appropriated and other funds, materials, and manpower.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-6 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; OR one full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example - Business Management, Accounting, Business Marketing, Public Administration); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience are: Provided support and assistance processing a wide variety of requisitions; Processed incoming and outgoing mail; Established and maintained the files of the Unit in accordance with Federal regulations and agency directives, accounted for property inventories, records, etc. (hard copy and/or electronic format); Used automated software to produce reports, correspondence and other written documents in draft form.

For the GS-7 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level; OR one full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example - Business Management, Accounting, Business Marketing, Public Administration); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience are: Produced a wide range of documents requiring the use of advanced software functions to enhance productivity or meet Unit needs; Provided administrative support to staff, developed correspondence, spreadsheets, and reports, and screened incoming correspondence to determine proper action and response based upon knowledge of organization and staff duties; Suggested ways of improving administrative and clerical office procedures and processes; Advised personnel of changes in administrative regulations and work processes related to a wide variety of administrative processes (i.e. travel, time and attendance records, procurement requests and payments); Trained administrative staff and guided them through appropriate office procedures and personnel regulations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
