As a Law Clerk (Trainee), GS-0904-12, typical work assignments in the Regions may include:

  • Assisting field examiners and field attorneys investigating unfair labor practice cases involving difficult legal issues or cases likely to result in the issuance of complaint;
  • Negotiating with the charged party/respondent to enter into an informal settlement agreement or a formal settlement agreement to close a case;
  • Preparing reports to recommend disposition by withdrawal or dismissal, approval of proposed settlement agreement, or issuance of complaint in cases where settlement could not be affected or issuance of Notice of Hearing; and
  • Arranging and conducting elections.

  • Salary range listed is base. Locality salary to be determined after selection.

IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT


The Ideal Candidate for the GS-0904-12, Law Clerk (Trainee) General Counsel Field position will have a strong academic law school record and currently be serving in a judicial clerkship or law fellowship but who has taken but has industrial, labor law and/or labor relations or similar courses in employment are preferred. The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication
skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To be eligible for the GS-0904-12 Law Clerk (Trainee) position and grade, applicants must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • Must have successfully completed a full course of study in an accredited law school by the ABA and have their JD or LLB.
  • Must have graduated with a 3.2 (out of a 4.0) cumulative law school grade point average (GPA) or was in the top 25% of their law school graduating class, if law school assigned grades or class rank. (TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED TO BE SUBMITTED.)
  • Must be currently serving in at least a 1-year (or longer) post-law school position as a judicial clerk, honors law clerk (trainee), law fellow, etc.
  • Must not be barred/licensed at the time of application.

OR
  • Must be currently in process of obtaining an advanced law degree (LLM or JSD) from a law school accredited by the ABA. (Transcripts are required to be submitted.)

These qualifications must be fully supported and articulated in an applicant's resume to receive consideration.
