Duties

Help
  • Provide input into natural resources planning process for wilderness, trails, and special uses activities.
  • Coordinate with other natural resources to ensure program requirements are included in project planning and execution.
  • Conduct surveys and studies of recreation facilities and trails for rehabilitation plans.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of wilderness recreation programs for the local community.
  • Develop work plans for usage of wilderness areas, construction and maintenance of trails, parking areas, trailhead facilities, campgrounds, and other developed recreation sites.
  • Initiate contact with the public to educate visitors and protect resources.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of wilderness education programs for the local community.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following:

  • Participated in the drafting of annual work action plans for carrying out recreation management decisions related to natural resources;
  • Assisted employees of various grade levels to develop potential recreational sites or areas for additional recreation use and planned development;
  • Assisted with other natural resource management activities by analyzing the impact of those resources on the recreation program;
  • Participated in assessing documentation of environmental impacts on social, economic, environmental, and other resources; or
  • Administered various types of special use authorizations.
OR
A masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 (two) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., in a related field of study;
OR
An appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level), if related. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
