Duties

Help

As a Senior Advisor (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA)), your duties will include:

  • Directing organization-wide Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) efforts in an international and geographically dispersed organization.
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of the bureau’s DEIA efforts to improve workplace diversity, workplace inclusion, recruitment and retention, sustainability, and accountability at the corporate level.
  • Communicating with Resilience and Food Security (RFS) leadership on the status of different work activities and efforts.  Reports regularly on the effectiveness of specific programs. 
  • Promoting the development and maintenance of effective relationships with U.S. private business and voluntary groups, international institutions, multilateral and bilateral donors, other government departments and agencies, and academic communities in all of the disciplines related to the Bureau’s programs and projects.
  • Serving as a primary agency advisor on various programs and events.
  • Counseling senior management staff and officials Advise on the appropriate methods and techniques to use in order to achieve program goals and objectives
  • Holding a leadership role on the RFS DEIA Council and ensures that the strategy and work plans align with the Agency Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Plan.
  • Developing and communicating efforts to institutionalize the diversity strategy to the bureau and agency-level stakeholder communities, influencing and guiding senior staff and supervisors.

Qualifications

GS-15-You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Examples of qualifying specialized experience at the next lower level for this position includes: (a) promoting and developing training programs to enhance employee understanding of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) issues; (b) communicating complex and controversial information to multi-cultural and technical audiences with diverse views; (c) creating and maintaining the operational infrastructure for a DEIA Council; (d) understanding Diversity, Equity  Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) issues and best practices and the continual progression of DEIA policies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, relevant to the duties of the position to be filled, including volunteer experience.

Well-qualified means an eligible employee who possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities which clearly exceed the minimum requirements of the position. A well-qualified employee must meet the qualification and eligibility requirements of the position, including any medical qualifications, suitability, and minimum education and experience requirements, meet all selective factors (where applicable); meet quality ranking factors and are assigned to the Silver Category or higher Category; be physically qualified with reasonable accommodation to perform the essential duties of the position; meet any special qualifying U.S. OPM-approved conditions; AND be able to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry without additional training.
