    This position is located in Assistant Administrator for NextGen, ANG-1; NAS Systems Engineering and Integration Office, ANG-B; Enterprise Safety and Information Security Division, ANG-B3; Information Security Branch, ANG-B31. The incumbent of this position is responsible for performing professional engineering work in support of the information security organization’s mission.

    Plans and accomplishes highly complex and challenging projects/programs and other work activities under the minimal direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced engineer. May act as a principal technical specialist or as a project/program manager or team leader for large work activities.

    Leads technical teams to research, test and integrate information security technologies in support of NextGen’s Research & Development, Integrated Aviation Partner Research & Development, NAS Operations, and FAA’s Cyber Threat testing and validation.

    Works with the Team Manager to develop and document short-term strategy/goals and long-term plans to implement security initiatives sponsored by the FAA Cybersecurity Steering Committee.

    Applies experience and comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts in the identification, assessment, and development of engineering studies, e.g., feasibility, risk analysis, cost-benefit, effectiveness, system compatibility, safety, and maintainability necessary for the advancement of enterprise information security capabilities. Performs modifications and development of new or modified information security standards, policies, and procedures in support of National Institute of Standards Technology (NIST), Department of Transportation requirements and FAA Orders. Supports the operations, maintenance and enhancements of the Cybersecurity Test Facility and Secure Enterprise Cyber Test Range laboratories.

    Reviews and develops information security requirements and processes to support key decisions and milestones in the FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS) as well as develops and refines the FAA System Engineering Manual. Assesses and evaluates information security technologies for new FAA acquisitions and supports preparation of security assessment and recommendation report.

    Contacts are internal and external. Often represents FAA as a senior technical point of contact on projects, programs and other work activities. Communicates results to all levels internally (within an LOB/SO or across LOB's/SO's) and externally. Plays a lead role in drafting, reviewing, and editing reports or contractual documents for final approval prior to external distribution. Presents briefings to obtain consensus/approval on policies. Coordinates significant technical matters with representatives of external organizations. Provides briefings and reports to senior engineers. Participates in interdisciplinary teams to research, develop, test, acquire, and/or implement systems that impact cybersecurity. Works across teams to support program related activities to meet the customer’s needs.

    Work is reviewed rarely, typically through status reports and at project completion, to ensure technical compliance and alignment with the requirements of the project or other work activity.

    Work activities typically impact directly on the objectives of one or more major subdivisions and/or LOB's/SO's and may impact on the objectives of the FAA. In some areas, the work may affect the safety and security of customers.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis. The travel may be for training or other work-related duties.
