Duties

Help

These types of positions administer, develop, deliver, and support information technology (IT) systems and
services. The paramount requirement is knowledge of IT principles, concepts, and methods; e.g., data
storage, software applications, and networking. Information technology refers to systems and services used
in the automated acquisition, storage, manipulation, management, movement, control, display, switching,
interchange, transmission, assurance, or reception of information. Information technology includes
computers, network components, peripheral equipment, software, firmware, services, and related sources.

As a Data Scientist at FAA, responsibilities may include:

  • Design and build Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) using PostGIS and PostgresQL relational databases. Performs data access analysis design, and data profiling to effectively design and implement a scalable GIS Data platform.
  • Develop strategies for data acquisitions/ETL, archive policies, and implementation of a GIS database.
  • Define Data Standards, Policies and Governance Strategies for the enterprise.
  • Translate business needs into long-term architecture solutions including data and security policies.
  • Define, design, and build dimensional databases.
  • Develop data design blueprints, evaluating data loads and provides design for suitable GIS structures for effective geo spatial analysis.
  • Reviews and develops object and data models and the metadata repository to structure the data for better management and quicker access.
  • Work experience with AWS RDS, PostgresQL, POSTGIS.
  • Work with Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), ArcGIS and other online mapping tools
  • Collect and combining data from multiple sources
  • Design and develop tools and techniques for analysis
  • Evaluate, document, and communicate research processes, analyses, and results to customers, peers, and leadership
  • Create interpretable visualizations

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I / FG/GS-13. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience may include but not limited to: Experience designing, architecting, and developing map based solutions using ESRI tools or similar, experience using major types of imagery and creating GIS datasets.

Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in their work history.
