  • Provides interactive, interpretive learning experiences about the American experience through art, culture, history, and biography based on the highest standards of excellence, as determined by the field of museum education.
  • Develops short and long-range goals and objectives for education access programs and services based on current educational theory and practices.
  • Provides interactive, interpretive learning experiences for all disabled visitors based on the highest standards of excellence, as determined by the field of museum education.
  • Identifies underserved or emerging segments within the disability community and builds communication with them for the purpose of expanding the educational reach of the museum.

Qualifications

You must meet these Basic Education Requirements:

  1. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

or

  1. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above.


In addition to Basic Requirements above, you must have following:

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as the development and presentation of museum education access programs for audiences with disabilities to achieve learning objectives outlined at a museum or cultural institution.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

Or Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s or equivalent degree related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements.

  • Ability to communicate in writing to develop educational materials that can be used by the accessibility community.
  • Ability to communicate orally to convey ideas and information to various audiences, including visitors with disabilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management to gain confidence and cooperation of management, stakeholders, and customers.
