    Summary

    This position is located in Smithsonian Institution, Office of General Counsel. The employee provides management and oversight of the office, including collaboration with attorneys, and supervising paralegal specialists and support staff to ensure exceptional client service both within the office and to the entire institution.

    Responsibilities

    As Administrative Officer, the incumbent will oversee major functional areas to include long-range planning, budget formulation and execution, personnel administration, procurement, facilities management, security and safety. Other major duties will include the following:

    • Provides advice to the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel on administrative matters to include oversight of and direction for administrative support to include long-range planning, budget formulation and execution, procurement, personnel administration and supervision of paralegals and support staff.
    • Provides expert advice and guidance on finance, accounting and budgets, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and agency accounting standards and policies.
    • Establishes and oversees a system for staffing, personnel administration, and development of internal practices on performance planning and evaluation.
    • Oversees a systematic procedure for the review and process of financial and procurement documents for the agency and approval of purchase card transactions.
