This is a temporary appointment intended for seasonal work that is less than 6 months or 1040 hours from date of appointment/service year. At management's discretion, this appointment may be: (1) extended up 1730 hours if the position is located in a specific geographic location that has been authorized for the 1730 hours; and/or (2) extended up to one-year with the possibility of extending an additional one-year. The agency may non-competitively rehire an eligible temporary seasonal worker in subsequent years who works less than 6 months or 1040 (in some cases 1730) hours in their service year.
The incumbent serves as a Biological Science Technician (Habitat) assisting with plant habitat surveys and conservation projects.
Data Management and Support:The incumbent uses a variety of databases and reporting systems to store, compile, and analyze data from studies. Collects biological samples ensuring correct documentation, reporting, storage, transport and delivery of samples taken. Uses automated databases to enter, organize and perform preliminary analysis of collected data, using standard statistical methods in preparation of reports.
Habitat/Plants:The incumbent participates in multifaceted plant studies, including carrying out a variety of research and survey methods, analyzing established data, and monitoring environmental elements such as temperature, humidity, etc., and how it impacts plant health. Uses field equipment including cameras, GPS equipment, binoculars, rangefinders and computers in order to capture survey data or for other records. Conducts and/or monitors grazing activities, water control structures, and/or management monitoring studies. Identifies native and exotic flora and fauna.

Qualifications
Only experience and education obtained by12/17/2020 will be accepted.
You may qualify at the GS-05 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrated your ability to 1) assist with the collection of seeds, propagation, handling, and caring for federally listed plants or host plants of federally listed species; and, 2) assist in the planning and conducting of wildlife censuses and surveys.; OR
Completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics etc. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. ; OR
A combination of experience as described under letter A above and education as described under letter B above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. (Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours may be used in this calculation). To calculate your percentage of education, first determine the total number of semester hours that exceed 60 semester hours (or your school's definition of one year of study), then divide the total number of your excess semester hours by 60 (or your school's definition of two years of study). To calculate your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
