Help

  • Perform the administrative functions related to staff supervision including providing guidance, review, evaluation, and training of subordinates in all areas related to archival processing and description
  • Supervise collections processing of AAA's archival and manuscript collections according to current archival standards and best practices, serving as AAA's subject matter authority and advisor for all archival processing projects; national standards, issues, initiatives, trends, and developments; and internal workflows and systems
  • Oversee the production and quality of all electronic and quality of all electronics findings aids and inventories, ensuring finding aids adhere to all national standards for content and format
  • Serve as subject matter authority, providing technical advice and guidance to senior management and advancement staff in developing work plans for funding proposals that support the organization's goals related to processing, preservation and conservation, and enhanced digital access to collections

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:  All applicants must meet the following education requirements: 

Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.
 
OR

Combination of education and experience at least 30 semester hours that included courses shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
 
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for the grade levels specified.

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system.  For this position Specialized experience is defined as work experience managing archival technical services; overseeing the archival repository and archival processing activities to include preservation, arrangement, and description in the form of electronic finding aids; and serving as subject matter expert on national archival standards and best practices.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

  • Ability to supervise a diverse staff processing archival collections including arrangement, description, conservation, and preservation with a variety of records and manuscripts, such as works of art on paper, photographs, video and audio tapes, and born digital formats
  • Knowledge and understanding of national archival standards, methodology, initiatives, best practices, and techniques for performance associated with collections archival processing and sound collections management and stewardship
  • Knowledge and skill understanding of computerized automated systems, such as ArchivesSpace, for cataloguing and managing archival materials, as well as skilled knowledge of archival metadata standards, systems, and best practices
  • Knowledge and experience in project planning/management
