  • The Registered Nurse Critical Care Unit - is responsible and accountable for providing direct and indirect care to a variety of critically ill patients to a culturally diverse veteran population. The Registered Nurse Critical Care Unit must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative interdisciplinary practice setting. This Registered Nurse demonstrates a sustained high level of clinical practice, skills to provide patient care in an intensive care unit. This Registered Nurse provides accurate use of emergency/resuscitative equipment.

  • The Registered Nurse Spinal Cord Injury - is an integral member of the spinal cord injury interdisciplinary team and is responsible for accurate clinical assessments, interventions, evaluations and documentation of the medical and surgical patient. Perform nursing physical and psychosocial assessments, utilizes nursing process to achieve individualized patient outcomes. Perform nursing care related to bowel and bladder management for SCI patient. Provide direct care services to a diverse group of patients with medical/surgical and rehabilitation needs through coordination of services within the Medical Center.
  • The Registered Nurse Stepdown Unit - is responsible and accountable for providing direct and indirect care to a variety of clinically complex, acutely ill patients to a culturally diverse veteran population. The Registered Nurse Stepdown Unit must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative interdisciplinary practice setting. This Registered Nurse demonstrates a sustained high level of clinical practice, skills to provide patient care in a stepdown unit level of care. This Registered Nurse provides accurate use of emergency/resuscitative equipment.

  • The Registered Nurse Mental Health and Rehabilitation - is focused on the treatment of the most common diagnoses encountered in Mental Health ranging form multiple psychological illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar, disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder major depression and other depressive disorders, substance abuse, and addictions. The Mental Health Registered Nurse assumes Charge Nurse duties, and responsibilities, complete admission assessments, discharge summaries, develops plans of care, participates in process improvements initiatives, and provides safe patient care; and other duties as assigned within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse.
  • The Registered Nurse Community Living Center - is accountable to the Nurse Manager for the area. He/she is responsible for the delivery of fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies. Adhere to unit-based protocols, maintain a current BLS (ACLS, if required for area) and work collaboratively with other disciplines in the medical center. The RN will complete patient assessments; admission assessments, discharge plans, verify orders; complete chart reviews; and administer medications.
  • The Registered Nurse Med/Surgery (inpatient) - is primarily responsible for applying the nursing process to the care of veteran patients admitted to the VA. The incumbent is responsible and accountable to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction; provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Sunday; Evening Shifts (3:30 p.m. - Midnight) Night Shifts (11:30 p.m - 8:00 a.m. / 7:30 p.m. - 8:00 a.m) Schedule may vary based on need of unit.

Qualifications

· United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
· Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
· Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
· Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
· Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
· Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
· Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience.

Additional information

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time Nurses, and Nurse Anesthetists at the rate of 8 hours for each full biweekly pay period.
