This job opportunity is for a Statistical Clerk (Telephone Interviewer-Bilingual) position in the Jeffersonville Contact Center (JCC) at the National Processing Center (NPC), U.S. Census Bureau located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The Statistical Clerk (Telephone Interviewer - Bilingual), performs telephone interviewing activities for the NPC in connection with the Census Bureau's various surveys/censuses in English and a foreign language. This position is included in the bargaining unit. This work is performed on site in JCC.

The individual selected for this position will:
Tour of Duty: Part time, Mixed Tour. Monday through Friday, hours range from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. with occasional weekends. Mixed Tour is a combination of periods of full-time, part-time, and intermittent work schedules which allow the best utilization of the employee based on the work requirements of the organization. Whenever there is an increase/decrease in the workload, your work schedule may change.
SELECTIVE FACTOR: Applicants must be able to converse, read and write in English and a foreign language to be considered proficient. Applicants must successfully complete a work sample that measures proficiency in English and a foreign language. This work sample will test the applicant's proficiency to converse, read, write, and translate from a foreign language to English and from English to a foreign language. The Human Resources Branch will schedule the work sample for candidates not certified by NPC within the last 3 years.
We are currently able to perform work samples for the following languages: Arabic, Cambodian, Chinese, French, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Tagalog. If an applicant speaks a language which we are not able to perform, or the applicant does not pass the work sample they will lose consideration for this position. Applicants will be informed of their results within 3 working days.
This position will work on site in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

A one year probationary period will be required.
You qualify at the grade 04 level if you possess one year of general experience that equips you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Statistical Clerk (Telephone Interviewer - Bilingual).
Education Substitution: Successful completion of 2 full years of study above the high school level in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, college, or university may be substituted for the required experience. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grade GS-04.
