Duties

Help

*Operation of heavy equipment-75%

*Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with the following endorsements: Tanker endorsement and Air Brakes.

*Diversified in the operation of heavy equipment in adverse weather conditions and after dark.

*Maintain 872 miles of earth, gravel and paved roads within the road system.

*Quality of work operating heavy equipment; but not limited to Motor Graders, Bulldozers of various sizes, rubber tired Front -End Loaders, heavy equipment transport, 10 C.Y. dump trucks, snow plows, sander trucks, pneumatic and steel drum rollers, backhoes, excavators, dura-patcher, crack sealer and, all while using safe working habits, complying with safety rules and regulations.

*Keep work progress sheets to insure the proper coding of record and equipment operations for proper preventative maintenance performance.

*Perform all preventative maintenance on equipment operated and report all deficiencies to the Roads Manager.

  • Employee must be willing and available to work overtime and be on-call during all times of the day, night, weekends and holidays. Must also be available to work various shifts day and/or night.
  • Physical Demands: Moderate to Heavy lifting with a minimum of 75 pounds as equipment utilized may be heavy in the operation of heavy equipment and the repair and maintenance of the equipment, physical activities and projects.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

TELEWORK: Indian Affairs has determined that the duties of the position are not suitable for telework under any circumstances.

You will be required to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle in the performance of duties, therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
