Duties

Help
  • Implement and coordinate GIS data and related resources as it pertains to the overall Bureau natural resources function.
  • Uses geospatial information to resolve complex environmental and resource issues.
  • Researches, prepares, and publishes the full range of certified deliverables and visual content required to foster accurate, compliant, and consistent GIS data management across the region.
  • Digitizes mapped information and provides a strategy for automation of regional trust data.
  • Serves a technical advisor and facilitates agreements and consistent database management/use to ensure achievement of national, regional, and tribal objectives.
  • Develops and implements standard operating procedures.
  • Facilitates long and short range resource planning across a variety of programs involving multiple interest groups.
  • Coordinates consistent region wide training opportunities and curriculum and assesses training needs and deficiencies.

Qualifications

Natural Resources, GS-0401

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions, and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-401: General Biological Science Series).

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL GRADES:
A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate for the position.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience-Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Cartographer, GS-1370

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for 1370: Cartography Series).

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-1370:
Degree: cartography or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites.
OR
Combination of education and experience-courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Geographer, GS-0150-13

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions, and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0150: Geography Series).

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL GRADES:
1. Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
OR
2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: In addition to meeting the basic entry level qualification requirements, applicants must have the following:

GS-12: I meet the basic requirement and I have at least one year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-11 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience in geospatial projects that involved analyzing agricultural, soil, biological, ecological, and/or resource inventory programs issues/trends AND experience in applying, analyzing, coordinating Geographic Information System (GIS) and/or Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technologies.

GS-13: I meet the basic requirement and I have at least one year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-12 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience in managing, directing or coordinating a large-scale geospatial program for multiple entities across multiple legal jurisdictions to analyze agricultural, soil, biological, ecological, and/or resource inventory programs issues/trends; AND experience managing public lands and experience with geospatial analysis (e.g., Geographic Information System (GIS) and/or Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technologies).
