Duties

Help
  • ? Review data and progress reports, and implement corrective actions needed to achieve adequate research progress.
  • ? Plan and execute analytic research projects and research the quality of methodologies and measures pertinent to the assessment and summarization of the health status of Americans.
  • ? Coordinate with investigators, organizations, and other government agencies engaged in assigned research activities and related fields and provide assistance to prospective grantees on various grant mechanisms and grant review processes.
  • ? Provide technical assistance to lower graded professionals on the use of complex statistical and epidemiologic techniques.
  • ? Serve as a technical expert with respect to various phases of statistical interpretation relating to topics under consideration.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Health Specialist, GS-0601 position you must meet the following Education Requirement:

Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Additional Qualification Requirements:

You qualify at the GS-12 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting epidemiology-related health research; preparing comprehensive reports of study results; and evaluating progress reports for funded projects.

You qualify at the GS-13 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning, coordinating, and implementing activities for epidemiology-related research programs; assisting staff with grant related administrative activities including evaluating progress reports for funded projects; and carrying out segments of complex studies covering a wide range of health topics.
