Duties

Help
  • You will assess newly admitted patients and initiating a plan of care based on the nursing assessment.
  • You will provide ongoing assessment, data collection, intervention and evaluation of pregnant women and infant (fetus) status will occur from the Mother Infant Care Center (MICC) through labor, childbirth and post-delivery periods for each patient.
  • You will monitor and formulated and individualized plan of care which may include observation, measuring vital signs, fetal monitoring, calculating intravenous fluids and administering venipuncture, phototherapy, and umbilical venous catheters.
  • You will recognize, respond appropriately and complete competency in the following patient situations with complications (e.g. pregnancy induced hypertension, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, bleeding disorders, hemorrhage, etc.).
  • You will assist medical staff and provide updates to the patients and family facilitating communication about transport situation.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country?s laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Selectee must be a current registered nurse (RN) and have a license in the United States.
  • Work may involve exposure to infectious/communicable diseases, radiation, mechanical, chemical and electrical hazards.
  • This position requires a degree in Nursing: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Must be able to rotate shifts if required.
  • Must be able and willing to work an uncommon tour of duty (includes weekend, nights, or holidays) as required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Basic Requirements: Applicants must possess a degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed AND must possess an active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (Note - Applicants must submit an official or unofficial transcript. Failure to provide the required documents will render not eligible for consideration), OR must be a graduate of a foreign school of professional nursing that has been deemed equivalent to that gained in conventional/accredited U.S. education programs (see http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp for details regarding foreign education equivalency).

In addition, your resume must also demonstrate the following:

GS-09: Applicants must also possess at least 1 year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:Working in a Mother/Infant care setting and providing advanced level of specialized nursing care to women of childbearing age and newborn infants consistent with the Emergency Nurses Association Standards of Emergency Nursing Practice; and providing ongoing assessment and intervention based upon chief complaint and medical diagnosis. GS-11: Applicants must also possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:Working in a Mother/Infant care setting and providing advanced level of specialized nursing care to women of childbearing age and newborn infants consistent with the Emergency Nurses Association Standards of Emergency Nursing Practice; using advanced triage assessment skills to determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs; and providing guidance and leadership for less experienced nurses and unlicensed personnel. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

GS-09: have successfully completed a master's degree in professional nursing.

Successfully completed a diploma, associate degree, or Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program AND I have at least one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector working in a Mother/Infant care setting and providing advanced level of specialized nursing care to women of childbearing age and newborn infants consistent with the Emergency Nurses Association Standards of Emergency Nursing Practice; and providing ongoing assessment and intervention based upon chief complaint and medical diagnosis.

GS-11: Have successfully completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.

Successfully completed a diploma, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing program AND I have at least one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector working in a Mother/Infant care setting and providing advanced level of specialized nursing care to women of childbearing age and newborn infants consistent with the Emergency Nurses Association Standards of Emergency Nursing Practice; using advanced triage assessment skills to determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs; and providing guidance and leadership for less experienced nurses and unlicensed personnel.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
