You will verify that the food safety system in the official egg products plant is in compliance with the Egg products Inspection Act (EPIA), related regulations and that the egg product produced is safe, wholesome, and unadulterated.
Inspect egg products offered for export from the United States using standards and procedures set out for proper performance of inspection.
Verify the accuracy of labels, inspection certificates and export documents.
Serve as the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) at an egg products plant (applies to day-shift only).
Monitor processing procedures involving extensive and technically complex formulations and/or high volume operations.
Prepare and maintain a variety of reports and records related to the work such as egg products surveillance/sampling, temperature checks.
Prepare and maintain a variety of reports and records related to the work of pasteurization tests, formulations, water reports, relabeling, incoming product certificates, and production logs.
Select representative samples for laboratory analysis and may monitor the shipping and receiving of tankers or egg products.
Maintain relations with plant managers and owners on long-range development programs for correcting deficiencies or problem areas including non-compliance with regulations.
Interpret new procedures, maintenance of complicated processing equipment, sanitation, etc.
Must be a current FSIS employee or USDA Career Transition and Assistance Eligible (CTAP).
Must meet Time-In Grade (TIG) by completing 52 weeks at next lower grade.

Training as a condition of employment (TCOE) is required. You must begin the training within 90 days of the effective date of your selection, and you must successfully complete it within 12 months of the effective date of your selection.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of the announcement, including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time-In-Grade/Time-In-Band: Applicants must meet requirements for one year at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade. (e.g. one year at the GS-07 grade level for consideration for the GS-08 grade level.)
Specialized experience: (FI-PP GS-8) Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-07 level). (Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level.) Specialized experience includes: Regulatory experience performing work that is governed by the Federal Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products Inspection Acts in order to inspect meat, poultry, or egg products. It also includes performing this type of work for fish or seafood. This experience is typically obtained as a Federal Food Inspector. In addition, it includes appropriate/equivalent experience performing inspection work in a State or Military food production environment for Meat, Poultry, Eggs, Fish, or Seafood. It also includes applying, interpreting, and explaining standards; assessing food products for wholesomeness or safety; and applying communication skills to work effectively with supervisors and personnel in the food industry. Typically qualifying experience at this level is experience as an FSIS inspector at the next lower grade level (GS-8/GS-7 or equivalent); this includes Egg Products inspection, Imports and/or Exports inspection, or experience as a consumer safety inspector.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
