This position is located in the Operations and Maintenance Unit, Facilities Management Section, Support Services Branch of the U.S. Census Bureau's National Processing Center (NPC) located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This position is included in the bargaining unit. The Section is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the buildings of the NPC. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, pipefitting, water treatment, and other trade tasks in support of the Section's mission.
Selectees will initially report to the main Jeffersonville campus but may be required to move to the off-site Decennial facility located at 100 Logistics Ave., Jeffersonville, IN 47130 which is approximately 7.8 miles from the main National Processing Center campus.

The individual selected for this position will:
Tour of Duty: Monday through Friday. Hours range between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. May be required to work night shift, 5:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. after completing required training. AWS and other flexible work schedules are not initially available but may be offered at a later time. Alternate Work Schedule is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days; i.e., eight 9-hour days/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off.
Employees are paid a night differential for any hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
DRIVER'S LICENSE: This position requires a valid state driver's license. Selectees will be required to furnish the original to the Human Resources Branch for photocopying prior to entrance on duty.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: May work from scaffolds, ladders, and platforms and in areas which are hard to reach or operate in. Stoops, bends, crawls, kneels and climbs in the performance of tasks. Must often assume uncomfortable positions. Frequently carries, lifts, and handles parts and equipment weighing usually up to 50 lbs. and occasionally above 50 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee is subject to cuts and abrasions from handling tools, wood, and pipe; electrical shock and burns when replacing switches, outlets, etc. Exposed to inhalation or harmful chemical fumes; injuries to the eyes while chipping paint or plaster; irritation of eyes, skin, and respiratory tract from sanding and dusting surfaces; and injuries resulting from falls while working on ladders or scaffolding. Work is usually performed indoors where adequate lighting, heat, and ventilation are provided and occasionally outdoors where there is some exposure to extremes of heat and cold, high winds, etc. May also be required to work in areas of building where ventilation, heating, or cooling equipment has been shut down for maintenance and/or other reasons.
PHYSICAL EXAM: Selectee will be required to pass a physical examination prior to the effective date of selection to this position. Cost of physical and chest x-ray will be the responsibility of selectee.
