The purpose of the position is to supervise and deliver quality general care to youth ages 12 to 17 years of age with substance use/chemical dependency/co-occurring problems. Serves actively and constructively as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, supports the organization and program philosophy of care; ensures the safety and well-being of each resident. Position reports to the Director of Nursing.

This position may be a day or night shift. Performs the full range of nursing care required to motivate and redirect the behavior of psychiatric patients. Manages the stable phase of common chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension and tuberculosis. Takes the initial health history on new patients. Assesses and treat minor health problems such as colds, impetigo, cuts and bruises. Provides individual and family counseling. Takes vital signs, takes specimens, and supports the doctor in diagnostic procedures applicable to the residential treatment center milieu. Dispenses medication refills and administers immunizations, inoculations, allergy treatments and all other prescribed medications.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
