As a SUPERVISORY ARCHIVES SPECIALIST, GS-1421-7/9, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:

Supervising a subordinate staff consisting of archives aids and technicians GS-2 through GS-7, responsible for the quality and quantity of work produced by employees directly under supervision; determining staffing needs; planning work schedules for projects; distributing work; developing and writing work policies and procedures; conducting staff meetings to convey and discuss suggestions, changes and new policies or procedures; establishing or participating in performance reviews and performance standard adjustments; and advising, counseling or instructing individuals on administrative matters.

Performing the full scope of space and General Reference administration for the operation coordinating with representatives of other organizational elements as appropriate; analyzing and proposing significant placement or relocation plans for records in custody of the Region; making recommendations based upon elements such as productivity, cost, and future space planning implications; and planning and coordinating with the IRS Service Center in order to coordinate major relocation efforts in order to create adequate space to assure successful movement of records. Ensures that General Reference Request, Refile, Attachment, interfiles are completed and that all relevant audit information is reconciled. Also ensure the program operates in accordance with Public Laws, Federal Agency Regulations, NARA Directives, and Federal Records Center Policies and Guidance.

Serving as liaison with program officials of other agencies to ensure that agency needs are met; providing technical assistance to program officials relating to records disposition and file management; and meeting, discussing, and corresponding with agency representatives on a variety of program or operational issues.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-07 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 (or higher) level of Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector performing duties such as working with a full range of records management activities or activities concerned with the receipt, arrangement, description, storage and reference service on such records; supervising subordinates Archives Technicians and Archives Aids; and interpreting and applying public laws, federal agency regulations, directives and executive orders relating to the disposition of federal records.
B. One year of graduate level education that demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position; OR superior academic achievement at the baccalaureate level. Superior academic achievement may be based on class standing, grade-point average, or honor society membership.
C. A combination of experience and graduate education to meet the total requirements for this position.

You may qualify at the GS-09 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 (or higher) level of Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector performing duties such as such as working with a full range of records management activities or activities concerned with the receipt, arrangement, description, storage and reference service on such records; providing outreach to agencies or the public concerning holdings, functions, and services of the agency; supervising subordinates Archives Technicians and Archives Aids; providing oversight in transferring, disposal and records processing and interpreting and applying public laws, federal agency regulations, directives and executive orders relating to the disposition of federal records.
B. A Master's degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree, from an accredited educational institution, that has demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
C. A combination of experience and graduate education to meet the total requirements for this position.
