As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will generate positive, national media coverage for GSA and its initiatives, products, and services. In coordination with the Press Secretary, the incumbent serves as principal advisor to press secretary and assists in responding to time sensitive media inquiries, preparing and reviewing press releases, and helping with the management of GSA's media affairs team. The work performed is often highly sensitive in nature, requiring a close confidential relationship with the Press Secretary and Deputy Associate Administrator for Media Affairs, and the Associate Administrator for Strategic Communication.
This position is located in the Office of Strategic Communication (OSC), in Washington, D.C.

The GS-12 salary range starts at $81,548 per year. The GS-13 salary range starts at $96,970 per year. If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.

To qualify for the GS-12 level:
You must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is developing responses to media inquiries, press releases, media programs, and strategies to produce timely coverage of important issues and breaking new stories; developing written informational materials for dissemination to the general public; and responding to news media inquiries either personally or arranging for a response by officials.
To qualify for the GS-13 level:
You must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is developing written and media communications for an organization and/or client's programs, projects, or initiatives; developing news releases and responses to media inquiries,s, radio and television scripts, feature articles, news conferences, etc.; managing communication publications, multi-media and special events; tracking media related coverage and events; and writing and editing highly professional materials.
