The Assistant Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse accountable to the Community Living Center (CLC) Nurse Manager. This position requires the nurse to have recent knowledge, experience, and demonstrate competence in care of adult and Geriatric Veterans. This nurse executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care. This nurse provides communication between Veterans, VAMC staff, and providers. This nurse executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility, and facilitates System Redesign principles throughout GEC Services. The Registered Nurse (RN) understands and promotes an interdisciplinary team approach to Veteran care. The nurse must demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care to the adult and geriatric population through collaborative strategies and in compliance with American Nursing Association Standards, in addition to Medical Center and Department standards. This nurse will be expected to be an active member of GEC Committees in addition to other assignments and projects This nurse will be expected to coordinate their schedule to provide coverage for the Nurse Manager of CLC and will require supervision from designated, covering Nurse Manager in the absence of the CLC Nurse Manager and will require minimal supervision when covering in line with Nurse capabilities. Physical Requirements: Physical demands include repetitive body movements including the following: frequent reaching, standing, walking, and lifting of equipment and/or patients to provide patient care. This position requires extension of the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction including above or below shoulder level, during the provision of patient care, including retrieval of needed equipment, supplies and to make contact with the patient. This position requires the maintenance of an upright position to perform duties associated with patient care. This position is typically non-sedentary, and frequently involves being in the standing position. This position requires moving about on feet to accomplish tasks, such as assisting with patient ambulation and moving one patient area to the next. This position requires the raising of objects from a lower position to a higher position or the movement of objects horizontally position to position. Lifting may be done to move a patient from one location to the next, i.e.- from the exam table to the chair, and in the movement of equipment or supplies. This position requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently to move objects. This position requires writing or otherwise working with fingers and/or hands, including one or both hands frequently. This is done when taking a patient's pulse, utilizing a stethoscope, administering medications, entering information into the computer, etc.
Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) prior to assuming clinical duties. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). The ACLS requirement is satisfied by attaining, and maintaining, current status through an approved AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course. BLS courses are normally offered within 1-5 days of entry on duty. No online certifications will be accepted.
