The Associate Chief Nurse, Care Integration Service (ACN-CIS), Local Office of Community Care, is responsible for all aspects of community care, to include Nursing practice, Utilization Management, patient flow activities aligned under ACN-CIS (Urgent Care, Acute Care, Palliative Care, and the Community Living Center), and oversight of all Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) Community Care functions as it relates to Care Integration. In addition, the ACN-CIS is responsible for departmental and organizational Performance Improvement, Competency Identification and Training, Standard Operating Procedure and Medical Center Memorandum development within the Care Integration Service.
The ACN-CIS works closely with Clinical and Business managers, other members of the Saginaw VA top management team, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) leadership teams, other VA Medical Center's (VAMC) leadership teams, VA Central Office (VACO) and community partner leadership teams.
The responsibilities of the incumbent include participation in management discussions, planning, policy making and sharing in the responsibilities of management actions. ACN-CIS is responsible for creating and maintaining partnerships with community agencies, political partners, Veteran Service Officers, other community stakeholders, other VAMCs, and VACO.
The ACN-CIS is responsible for the direct and/or indirect supervision and coordination of all clinical and administrative support staff assigned to Care Integration Service.
The ACN-CIS must apply a sound and in-depth understanding of both clinical and administrative programs within the Saginaw VAMC. He / She provides leadership and guidance over these services and collaborates closely with Service Chiefs, Departmental leadership, VISN leadership, other VAMC leadership VACO leadership and community partner leadership in the formulation and supervision of clinical and administrative goals designed to further education and research programs.
The ACN-CIS reports to the Chief of Staff (COS). He / She assumes collateral duties as assigned.

Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) prior to assuming clinical duties. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). The ACLS requirement is satisfied by attaining, and maintaining, current status through an approved AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course. BLS courses are normally offered within 1-5 days of entry on duty. No online certifications will be accepted.
