This position is located in the Department of Health And Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, HSB-Healthcare Systems Bureau, Division of Transplantation (DoT), in Rockville, Maryland.
This position is a mission critical occupation and is responsible for analyzing public health programs, policies and procedures to ensure that Health Resources and Services Administration meets its mission, goals and objectives.
The HSB's Organ Donation and Transplantation, C. W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation, and National Cord Blood Inventory programs extend and enhance the lives of individuals with end-stage organ disease, blood cancers, and certain inherited or metabolic disorders through organ or blood stem cell transplantation Key elements of the program are:
1. Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), the national system that allocates and distributes donor organs to individuals waiting for an organ transplant;
2. Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) uses OPTN data and simulation models to improve OPTN policy development and produces bi-annual reports of organ procurement;
3. National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) connects patients, doctors, donors, and researchers to the resources they need through a network of transplant, donor and collection centers, cord blood banks, recruitment groups and international registries.
4. Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) collaborates with the scientific community to advance hematopoietic cell transplantation and to increase survival and quality of life for patients. The CIBMTR facilitates observational and interventional research and maintains a clinical outcomes database for the CW Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program.
5. Increasing the number of donor organs and stem cell made available for transplantation.
