About the Position: The Labor & Delivery Unit provides a wide spectrum of obstetrical and labor care by obstetrical and gynecological specialty physicians, certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, obstetrical registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and administrative staff. The Labor & Delivery Unit is committed to providing comprehensive family-centered care to all beneficiaries and their family members. The position requires that the selected candidate be available to perform rotating shift work. The selected applicant for this position can expect to perform a variety of RN duties to include, but not limited to, assessing and managing the patients' physical condition and progress through the labor and delivery process. This position requires prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, or stooping, as well as the ability to lift, push, or pull objects, greater than 50 pounds. The incumbent is also expected assess fetal well-being by means of electronic fetal monitoring and other standard parameters. In addition, the applicant will initiates parent/infant bonding by promoting a baby-friendly environment while assessing the needs of the patient and family. The applicant will also administer intravenous fluids and medications. The applicant is also expected to respond to life-saving situations, using nursing standards and protocols for treatment as well as order diagnostic tests as needed. The selected candidate will also act as the patient advocate and collaborate with fellow members of the Labor & Delivery care team. The candidate is also expected to provide education and support to the patients and their family members. This position requires rotating shift work to include nights, weekends, and holidays.

You can expect to perform a variety of RN duties in an Inpatient Mother Baby Unit and in Labor and Delivery. Administers care, recognizing complications, and coordinates with other members of the Mother Baby Care team or a Labor & Delivery Unit. Execute a variety of mother baby nursing functions in the care of new mothers and their newborns. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: assist and support pregnant women in their healthy labor processes, administer medications and intravenous fluids to mothers and provide nursing care to newborn babies. The incumbent can also expect to continuously monitor the health of new mothers and their babies, provide nursing care to babies born prematurely or seriously ill, instruct and counsel new mothers and family members on baby care issues like breastfeeding and bathing as well as assist and support mothers with all post-partum medical care. In addition, the applicant will initiate parent/infant bonding by promoting a baby-friendly environment while assessing the needs of the patient and family.
