Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Intergovernmental Affairs Specialist, you will have the following responsibilities:

  1. Lead a team of professional staff tasked with coordinating across the Agency to respond to state inquiries and engaging in proactive outreach to states on important FDA policy issues and to develop and maintain relationships with state policy-making officials.
  2. Represent the Agency in meetings and conferences across the country with state stakeholders such as governors, state lawmakers, attorney generals and others.
  3. Drive policy agenda for FDA engagement with the states on issues of importance to the Agency, in coordination with the relevant FDA Offices, Centers and/or Directorates.
  4. Advise the Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner, Office Policy, Planning, Legislation, and Analysis and other senior Agency officials on salient issues related to FDA's engagement with the States.
  5. Prepare and provide briefings, presentations, and written communication about policy and operational issues.
  6. Direct work to be accomplished, develop performance standards, evaluate performance, set and adjust short and long-term priorities and schedules for completion of work, interview candidates for vacancies, and recommend appointments, promotions, and reassignments.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for Supervisory Intergovernmental Affairs Specialist, 0301, at GS - 15, you must meet the following specialized experience:

Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

  • You must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service in developing responses and/or testimonies for Agency officials to state inquiries or hearings before state legislative committees; interpreting and responding to state and congressional inquiries in reference to public health regulatory policies; and developing and maintaining relationships with state policy-making officials.
NOTE: Volunteer experience may also be used as qualifying experience.
