The Assistant Nurse Manager (Registered Nurse) for one of the four neighborhoods of the Community Living Center, Kerrville Division, will serve as the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) in the absence of the incumbent Nurse Manager (NM).
· Assists Nurse Manager (NM) in evaluating, guiding and developing staff as they execute: development of plans of care, prioritization of client needs, relevance of nursing diagnosis, individualization of interventions, expected veteran-resident outcomes, and quality of documentation.
. Distributes time and effort between hands-on direct care (40%) and management/administrative functions (60%).
· Assists NM in promoting professional development and motivation for employees to work at optimal effectiveness and efficiency. Ensures required and other relevant training is completed.
· Assists NM in providing overall management of neighborhood on a 24-hour, 7 days a week basis. Principle tasks include drafting and adjusting an equitable and reliable work schedule. Collaborates across all shifts and all neighborhoods in coordinating staffing requirements.
· Assists NM in managing nursing staff in delivering safe and effective nursing care. Demonstrates sound administrative judgment in making decisions.
· Initiates and/or collaborates in the formulation of standard operating procedures and policies based on findings from evidence based practices and research studies.
· Assists NM in demonstrating responsibility for performance improvement activities and utilizes the information to enhance quality of patient care provided and ensures staff participation.
· Assists NM in compiling and submitting required reports in a timely manner including but not limited to: performance appraisals; proficiencies; performance improvement / quality improvement reports; schedules; certified time; workload requests; and patient care data reviews.
· Assists NM in completing special assignments and is a contributing member of Nursing Administration Committee and a system of councils and committees.
· Assists NM in both positive performance recognition and corrective counseling of staff members as indicated by performances or attitudes; employs appropriate documents according to prescribed procedures, and maintains an objective relationship with the staff.
· Assists NM in managing the assigned unit(s) resources within budgetary guidelines. With particular attention to variable labor costs (e.g. overtime and comp time), new and replacement equipment, and supplies
· Assists NM in planning and conducting regularly scheduled meetings with staff; disseminates information; and encourages open communication with staff.
· Recognizes and responds to urgent needs appropriately utilizing critical thinking skills and on-the-spot reprioritization.
· Employs effective communication skills to identify and resolve problems/issues on the neighborhood and/or in the facility after business hours.
· Reports to Nursing leadership accurate, necessary, and sufficient information regarding issues that may have occurred in the neighborhood during and after normal business hours that cannot be tabled until the next AM Department of Nursing Morning Report.
· Assists the NM in Providing on-going career development of staff members through periodic need assessments, and scheduling of training / in-services, continuing education programs, and participation in committees and councils/meetings. Ensures compliance of annual mandatory training requirements and competency statements.
· Assists NM in supporting staff to pursue career enhancement opportunities in clinical, management, and administrative pathways pursing leadership, professional, and educational activities.
· Understands, teaches, and monitors their neighborhood staff's completion of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) Assessments through the Caribou system.
· Understands, initiates, and updates, complete and accurate "I-Care" plans for assigned residents.
· Serves on a rotational basis along with other Kerrville Division nursing leaders as the accessible in-house nursing leadership authority after routine business hours.
*Work Schedule: 07:30 4:00 with possible Rotating Shifts, Weekend Rotation & Holidays (Duty Station and Tour may change due to patient care needs)
