The selectee will serve as a Police Officer in the Pentagon Force Protection Agency.

The mission of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) is to provide force protection, security, and law enforcement, as required for the people, facilities, infrastructure and other resources at the Pentagon Reservation and Department of Defense (DoD) activities and DoD-leased facilities not under the jurisdiction of a Military Department within the National Capital Region (NCR) (hereinafter referred to as "the Pentagon Facilities"). This includes addressing the full spectrum of potential threats through robust prevention, preparedness, detection, and response measures. PFPA uses an integrated approach to perform its critical mission, bringing together functions such as chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear detection and response, law enforcement, physical security, anti-terrorism/force protection, and surveillance detection. PFPA operates in an environment that requires close coordination between multiple local, state and Federal agencies.

LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, USC Section 992(g)). A felony or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is generally defined under the statute, as an offense involving the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by the victim's current or former domestic partner, parent or guardian. The term convicted, as defined in the statute, excludes any person whose conviction has been expunged, set-aside or pardoned, or any person whose civil rights have been restored, so long as such restoration does not restrict the shipping, transport, possession or receipt of firearms or ammunition. Candidates who have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence within the meaning of the referenced statutes are not eligible for the position.

Duties

Help

As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Respond to the needs of the general public by performing investigations, problem solving, following up on leads, obtaining evidence and deterring criminal activity within DoD facilities.
  • Ensure the protection of life, property, and civil rights of individuals.
  • Check badges and identification cards of incoming personnel.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of surveillance and suspicious persons on and around the Pentagon Reservation.

This position is identified as a covered position under the PFPA Civilian Mobility Program, Regulation 1400.24, effective September 28, 2015. This position requires that candidates selected on or after 11/14/2016 must sign a mobility agreement as a condition of employment. PFPA may relocate covered positions and covered employees in permanent changes of duty station between PFPA duty locations in the National Capital Region; Raven Rock Mountain Complex (Adams County, Pennsylvania); Glynco, Georgia; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania or Baltimore, Maryland and potentially other locations to improve mission effectiveness or enhance individual career progression.

- Applicants will undergo an extensive background check to include the following law enforcement databases: the National Crime Information Center (NCIC); Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN); and Defense Data Exchange (DDEX).

- Fingerprint Check - Your fingerprints will be submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigations for a criminal history record check.

Mandatory Completion of Basic Training for Police Officers:

  • Must successfully complete approximately 7 months paid training in the following phases:
    • Phase 1: Approximately 2 weeks of orientation at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), Cheltenham, MD
    • Phase 2: Approximately 12 weeks of Uniformed Police Training at the FLETC, Brunswick, GA
    • Phase 3: Approximately 6 weeks of Agency Specific Basic Training at the FLETC, Cheltenham, MD
    • Phase 4: Approximately 6 weeks of Field Training and Evaluation Program training with the Pentagon Police
Failure to successfully complete all phases of training may result in removal from the position.

AD-05: You may qualify at the AD-5 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least AD-04 or GS equivalent level in the Federal sector, performing police officer work that demonstrates knowledge of a body of basic or commonly used laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and operating methods and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

AD-05 level - Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position. NOTE: You must provide transcript(s) that support your education claim.

COMBINATION: Combination of education and experience that totals 100% of qualification requirements.

AD-06: You may qualify at the AD-6 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements below:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least AD-05 or GS equivalent level in the Federal sector, performing police officer work that demonstrates knowledge of a body of basic or commonly used laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and operating methods and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

AD-07: You may qualify at the AD-6 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements below:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least AD-06 or GS equivalent level in the Federal sector, performing police officer work that demonstrates knowledge of a body of basic or commonly used laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and operating methods and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the civilian drug-testing program. As a mandatory requirement for employment in this TDP, the incumbent is to (a) refrain from the use of illegal drugs and (b) if required, submit to urinalysis testing. The selectee must sign statements acknowledging the position is identified as a TDP.
  • You must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • You must possess a valid driver license which has not been revoked or suspended during the past three (3) years.
  • You must meet the requirements of "Lautenberg Agreement" which outline rules regarding carrying of firearms.
  • You must qualify monthly, quarterly, and/or bi-annually, as applicable, with assigned weapon(s).
  • Employees assigned to this position are designated as EMERGENCY EMPLOYEES. Emergency employees are expected to: report for, or remain at, work in dismissal or closure situations due to adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, or other emergency situations (e.g., building closure due to power outage) causing disruptions of government operations, unless otherwise directed by their supervisor.
  • You will be subject to recall 24/7 and required to work shifts; days off vary.
  • You must be in a constant state of physical readiness and must be capable of demonstrating maximum physical exertion without warning. Any hesitancy, reluctance, or inability to fully engage in a critical situation that requires full-unrestricted physical capabilities could have tragic, if not fatal, consequences.
  • You must take and pass an annual PFPA medical and physical fitness examinations; to carry and qualify with PFPA service issued firearms twice a year; to wear personal protective equipment, i.e., ballistic vest, etc.; and to pass all designated PFPA certification programs.
  • You must meet the following medical conditions: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, emotional and mental stability, and the ability to hear the conversational voice. In addition, the position requires common physical characteristics and abilities in agility, dexterity, and strength to endure regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, carrying, or moving heavy or unwieldy objects over 50 pounds, running, climbing, crouching, crawling and kneeling during pursuit possibly in restricted, dark and hot or cold spaces, or defending oneself or others against possible exposure to explosives, chemicals, or other weapons of mass destruction.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain training required for Federal Law Enforcement Officers.
  • You will be subject to a vision screening to determine whether your vision is 20/20 or correctable to 20/20 in both eyes.
  • You must successfully complete a specialized law enforcement training provided by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC).
  • You must successfully complete the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST). The POST will test your knowledge of basic math, reading and grammar. You must obtain an average score of 70% to receive further consideration for this position.
  • This position requires successfully completion of the Physical Ability Test (PAT). (A minimum of 19 pushups within 2 minutes and a 1.5 mile run within 17:30 minutes) for entry into the position and continuously throughout the career.
  • Retention in this position is contingent upon the successful completion and passing of all agency-trained requirements.
