Serves as a Aviation Safety Inspector (Manufacturing) administering and enforcing the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) with respect to production, original airworthiness, and certification programs. Duties include the evaluation/surveillance of production operations and quality control operations; making original airworthiness determinations and issuing certificates for all civil aircraft, including but not limited to modified aircraft, import, export, military surplus, and amateur-built aircraft. Determines the need and performs surveillance/supervision for designated manufacturing inspection representatives (DMIR), designated airworthiness representatives (DAR), and/or organization designation authorization (ODA) to act as representatives of the Administrator and assist in the accomplishment of the Federal Aviation Administration work program at assigned manufacturing facilities.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years; Valid State driver`s license; Fluency in the English language; No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance; and High school diploma or equivalent.
Applicants for Aviation Safety Inspector (Manufacturing) positions must also meet one of the following requirements: A) Experience in the area of quality systems, methods, and techniques in the manufacture of products and/or articles that demonstrates the ability to determine whether aircraft and related products meet the approved design criteria, or the design criteria on which approval is being sought and is in condition for safe operations; or B) Experience involving either the actual issuance of airworthiness certificates or having responsibility for managing programs leading to the issuance of original airworthiness certificates or original export airworthiness approvals for products and/or articles; or Experience involving a combination of paragraph A) and paragraph B) listed above.
To qualify for this position at the FG-12 level, applicants must demonstrate in your application that they possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FG/GS-11 in the Federal Service. In addition to the minimum qualification requirements listed above, applicants must possess specialized experience working at an FAA Production Approval Holder or applicant for a production approval (PC, PMA, TSOA, APIS) in a quality control/quality assurance position. Specialized experience is defined as knowledge of quality assurance systems as it relates to Aerospace Manufacturing environment in the areas of assembly and test, final inspection, airworthiness determination as evidenced by practical experience working this environment. Specialized experience may have been acquired as an FAA designee authorized to perform manufacturing inspection functions on behalf of the FAA, such as a Designated Manufacturing Inspection Representative (DMIR) or a Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR).
