Summary

As a Clinical Nurse (Emergency), the incumbent will be responsible for providing comprehensive clinical medical care in the specialty of emergency medicine at a primary and secondary level in an inpatient/outpatient setting in a unique, diverse community. 

Position Locations are: PHOENIX AREA: Western Region Service Unit, BILLINGS AREA: Blackfeet Community Hospital, Crow Agency, GREAT PLAINS AREA: Pine Ridge Service Unit, NAVAJO AREA: Gallup Service Unit, Crownpoint Service Unit, Chinle, Northern Navajo Medical Center, Kayenta Service Unit and The Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Health Center (DZHC) which operates as part of the Shiprock Service Unit (SRSU), the primary referral center being Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC).

  • Initiates treatments and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of standing orders for medical and traumatic emergencies.

  • Participates in performance improvement addressing efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of emergency nursing services.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education:  Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Registration:  Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:specialized experience in providing complete assessments of patients with a variety of trauma and emergency conditions; triages as to the nature of problems and begins care; administers medications, operates specialized equipment and responds appropriately in emergency situations.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain an active, unrestricted Nursing license in any State (U.S.). If this is not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education may be credited. For GS-10:  2 1/2  full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's or equivalent degree or 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which annual leave is earned.

Loan Repayment Program (LRP):  The Indian Health Service (IHS), National Health Service Corps (NHSC), and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) have student loan repayment programs for qualifying health disciplines.  This is a competitive process separate from the hiring process.  Opportunities for LRP are based on agency hiring priorities and availability of funds.
