About the Position:
This position is located in the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity (USA MEDDAC) at the Guthrie Ambulatory Health Clinic (GAHC), in the Sexual Assault Medical Management Office (SAMMO), at Fort Drum, NY. You will be the SAMMO Program Manager.

This position is subject to irregular tour of duty to include weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays.  You may be recalled for duty in emergency situations, and you may be required for overtime.

This position will require you to be a trained and fully competent as a Sexual Assault Forensic Medical Examiner (SAMFE), also known as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), and/or you must meet this requirement within three years of employment. If you have not attended Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Training, it must be attended within six months of employment. You must obtain and maintain New York State Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Certification within three (3) years of employment.
Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division, is located in Northern New York's picturesque North County. As one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, the area offers bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, boating, sailing, scuba diving, white water rafting, and winter sports of all types. Fort Drum borders Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River, Canada, the Adirondack Mountains, and Vermont.
Guthrie Army Health Center is located at Fort Drum, New York, near the city of Watertown. Watertown is located in the scenic 1,000 lakes region of upstate New York. Museums and historic points of interest include the War of 1812 Battlefield in Sackets Harbor, Boldt Castle, Millionaire's Row, the Antique Boat Museum, lighthouses, Burrville Cider Mill, the Clayton Opera House, and the Jefferson County Historical Society. Additionally, the area provides quaint downtown shopping, on-the-water dining, and family amusements that make Watertown a great place to live.

Duties

Help

 As a Nurse (Clinical/Case Management), you will:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee the Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examiner (SAMFE) program in order to improve the quality of care delivered to survivors of violent crimes.
  • Provide appropriate, concise, and goal-directed communication to all staff to ensure and enhance the continuity of care.
  • Travel between Fort Drum and local hospitals, Veterans Administration facilities, and other community assets as well as outlying areas such as Syracuse and West Point.
  • Develop and manage the treatment and support programs with the Medical Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), sexual assault and other areas of interpersonal violence and victim needs, as directed by the Commander.

  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A job offer to an applicant who is a not a current employee will be withdrawn if the applicant refuses to be tested. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment. Applications from such individuals shall not be considered for employment for a period of 6 months from the date of the test results.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • This position may require use of protective clothing and/or uniform.
  • A Childcare Background Check (CNACI) is required. This position has a specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require contact with children.
  • Must obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical/Case Management):

  • Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed.
  • Registration: Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

  • Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.  To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Experience is defined as: coordinating patient services, conducting patient assessments, assigning priority of care based on patient's signs, and coordinating with members of a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
