Summary

This is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) for a permanent Full-Time Clinical Nurse for the Nursing Division, Emergency Room Department located at the Hopi Health Care Center in Polacca, Arizona. Qualified candidates with a complete application will be considered for current or future vacancies as they occur. Veterans' preference and traditional rating and ranking of applications do not apply to this vacancy announcement.

Who May Be Considered: Citizens of the United States, Competitive Service federal employees, Commissioned Corps Officers of the U.S. Public Health Service, and eligible Indian Preference candidates.

Period of Eligibility: Applicants will remain eligible for three (3) months from the time the application is received.

Position Details: Positions may be Permanent, Temporary, or Term with a tour of duty of Full-Time, Part-Time or Intermittent. The Agency has the option of extending Term Appointments for up to a maximum of four years.

Government Housing: Is subject to availability and approval.

Incentive: Recruitment or Relocation Incentive may or may not be authorized and is subject to availability and service unit approval. If offered, you will be required to sign a one year service agreement. Failure to fulfill the service agreement will result in repayment of the incentive.

Salary Range:

GS-09: $57,671 - $70,649

GS-10: $60,334 - $74,626

Duties

Help

  • Assess patients presenting for emergency care and triages based on history, physical assessment and chief complaint.
  • Provides comprehensive nursing care for acutely ill and/or critically ill patients.
  • Monitor or evaluate medical conditions of patients in collaboration with other health care professionals.
  • Develop, implement, or evaluate standards of nursing practice in specialty areas.
  • Plan, evaluate, or modify treatment programs based on information gathered by observing and interviewing patients, or by analyzing patient records.
  • Documents nursing interventions, therapeutic measure administered, patient's reactions, patient teaching and understanding.
  • Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician to include, but not limited to, medication administration, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, treatments and maintains those measures taken which are ongoing in nature.
  • Participates in the development, updating and evaluation of standards of care and quality improvement monitoring.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals and service providers to ensure optimal patient care.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must reflect sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

1.  Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

2.  Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.  Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector.

GS-09 Grade Level:

  • 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's degree OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level.

GS-10 Grade Level:

  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level.

At the GS-09 grade level and above, positions require 1 year of specialized experience in the specific specialty area of nursing that is being filled.

Note: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions which both education and experience are acceptable. Graduate-level education must have been in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly applicable to the requirements of the position to be filled.

A one-year probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.

This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Security Clearance: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a fingerprint check. Fingerprint results must be cleared prior to hire. You will receive instructions on how to obtain and submit fingerprints. After you begin your employment, your continued employment is contingent upon the outcome of a complete background investigation as determined by the sensitivity level of your position. The investigation must find that you are suitable for Federal employment in your position. If you are found not suitable, you will be terminated after you begin work. If you make a false statement in any part of your application, you may not be hired; you may be fired after you begin work; or subject to possible criminal charges.
  • Required to obtain and maintain an active, current registration as a professional nurse. If licensure requirements are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal Service.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
  • Works on a regularly assigned rotation to provide continuity of medical service 24/7 including weekends and holidays.
