Duties

Help

  • Responsible for training and certifying federal agents in the Special Response Force Basic course and candidates in the Tactics phase of the Nuclear Materials Courier Basic.
  • Training for the Main Battle Force in areas concerning Convoy Defense and Recovery operations. 
  • Enforce compliance with safety, health, and security regulations during all training activities.
  • Serves as an Exercise Director, Controller, Officer-in-Charge, Range Safety Officer and course manager when assigned.

  • This position requires a level of physical fitness that meets the demands of the OST training being conducted.  Incumbent is subject to extensive temporary duty outside of TRACOM. 
  • Incumbent is subject to long training hours while wearing protective equipment such as body armor, helmet, tactical gear, and emergency related equipment.  Position requires the successful completion of the Basic Instructor Training (BIT), Firearms Instructor Certification (FIC), American Red Cross CPR/AED certification, and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) if applicable. 
  • Assignment to specialized courses, i.e. SRF and DM, requires successful completion of applicable DOE and OST initial and instructor level certification programs.
  • In accordance with assigned duties the incumbent must maintain his/her individual current qualifications including basic instructor requirements, firearms, drive, intermediate use force, special response force, live fire shoot house instructor, and DOE/OST web based training. 
  • The work of this position involves routine exposure to hazardous noise levels requiring participation in the hearing conservation program. 
  • The use of personal protective equipment is mandatory. 
  • The OST mission is performed on a 24 hour, 7 days a week basis.  All employees are subject to participation in both scheduled and unscheduled emergency response exercises and events.

  • This position is a secondary position which requires prior experience as a Nuclear Materials Courier, which provides the knowledge of Transportation Safeguard Systems (TSS) activities and associated federal agent functions necessary to ensure that training drills and exercises, incident notifications and communications procedures are appropriate to the situations that are encountered during actual convoy operations.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Example of qualifying experience includes: assisting and supporting a wide variety of training courses and curriculums, instructing law enforcement and/or para-military type training, and management and/or oversight of formalized training programs development of training curriculum and training courses.

Examples of qualifying experience include:

  • Experience as an instructor, such as: combat arms, basic training, standard communications, tactical entry, and other courses normally associated with light infantry, military special operations, protective force, or law enforcement type training.
  • Experience in coordinating training program policies, identifying training resources, and conducting annual reviews of training materials.

KSA-1 - Knowledge of adult education theories and curriculum development in order to develop, review, evaluate, and modify course objectives.

KSA-2 - Knowledge and skill applying OST’s training missions, functions, goals, objectives, and training processes to complete training assignments.

KSA-3 - Skill and ability to assist in conduct classroom training and interacting with students, deliver up-to-date training course materials, and provide practical applications in a field training activities.

KSA-4 - Ability to plan, coordinate and implement large scale events, training program policies, and conduct program reviews.

KSA-5 - Skill in communications sufficient to conduct briefings, prepare after action reports, and provide feedback to instructors and students.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade/Band: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration.

Education

NQ-02 - Education Substitution: You may substitute the completion of two full years of graduate education or all the requirements for a master's (or higher) degree in a field directly related to emergency planning and preparedness work (e.g., emergency planning and operations; telecommunications; physical, nuclear, or information security) for the specialized experience requirement for NQ-02. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position.  Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. 

EDUCATION:
Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

The Training Command provides initial training and certification to Federal Agent candidates and implements annual sustainment training for incumbent Federal Agents.
