At the entry level of this position you will:

- Analyze and summarize a variety of environmental program information data for use in preparing reports and program evaluations.
- Perform studies of a standard nature on regulatory and compliance issues and problems.
- Prepare initial recommendations for solutions to be reviewed by higher graded staff.
- Support higher-graded staff in planning for program management of environmental programs.
- Assist staff in preparation of materials for, and participation in, briefings with managers and review literature for assessment and information gathering.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently as your career progresses.

This position is designated as Low Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.

This position requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

You will be required to lift moderately heavy items.

You must be age 16 or older.

Qualifications

In addition to the eligibility requirements for the Pathways Internship Program, Pathways Interns qualify for an initial appointment based on their educational achievements as described below:  

To qualify for the GS-07 level, you need to have completed one full academic year of graduate level education; or a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition).

To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have completed two academic years of graduate level education; or a master’s degree or equivalent degree.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Salary will be based on the grade level for which you are selected and the duty location of the position.

Except in special circumstances, those new to the federal government will be hired at the starting salary (step 1) of the applicable grade range listed above.

Interns without not-to-exceed dates who successfully complete the program may be converted to a term or permanent position with greater promotion potential in the competitive service without further competition.

If you are graduating from your present course of study at the end of the current semester/quarter, to be eligible for this program you must be continuing your education next semester/quarter and be accepted for enrollment seeking a diploma, certificate, bachelor’s degree, graduate degree, or professional degree from a qualifying educational institution on a full- or half-time basis.

Position does not have portable work and selectee may not telework.
